History of Manas National Park Manas has a righ and varied history, from a hunting ground to a globally significant conservation area. Pre - 1865: The area was under the Kingdom of Bhutan. 1907 : The area was proposed as a Reserve Forest, with hunting prohibited and activityes regulated. October 1, 1928 : The Manas Wildlife Sanctury was officially declared with an area of 391 km. Pre - Independence Era : It was used as aprimary hunting ground by the king of Gauripur and the royal family of Coochbihar.
